The City of Lomita was incorporated on June 40,1964. The name “Lomita” was taken from an old surveyor’s map for an area named “Lomita del Torro” of the Rancho San Pedro tract, meaning little “Hill of the Bull” in Spanish. Actually most of the city is almost perfectly flat except for a small area south of Pacific Coast Highway common known as “Lomita Pines”, so I am not sure what Hill they were talking about.
