Hermosa Beaches was originally part of the 10 mile ocean frontage of Rancho Sausal  Redondo.  In the year of 1900 a tract of 1500 acres was purchased for $35 per acre  from A. E.. Pomroy owner of the greater part of Rancho Sausal Redondo.  Messers. Burbank and Baker real estate agents, bought the land for Sherman and Clark who organized and retained the controlling interest Hermosa Beach Land and water Company.  Messrs. Burbank and Baker realized that someday the 2 miles of beaches would be valuable as land for pleasure resorts and summer playground for vacations seekers of the fast growing city of Los Angeles. Burbank and Baker realized this beach was one of the finest, having few rip tides or dangerous undertows and that it sloped gradually into the water, it sands were washed clean and fine with no outlying kelp beds and with liter it with sea weed at low tides; naturally, they also figured it to be a good financial investment and improved be a better one than they had hoped for.

Hermosa Beach is bounded by Manhattan Beach to the north Redondo Beach, the South and in the Pacific Ocean on the west.
